Currently a sports correspondent at STV News at Six, Tyrone Smith has been reporting on rugby, football and tennis for the better part of a decade. He is also an accomplished composer and musician. He has produced records for Joss Stone and Erykah Badu. He has been involved in several other projects ranging from branding to entrepreneurship. He has also been involved in the civil rights community. As a matter of fact, he is a member of the Scottish Civic Award Advisory Committee.
One of the more memorable moments of his career was when he won the prestigious BBC Radio 2 Award for the most entertaining interviewee. He also landed a spot as the primary sports presenter on the North Tonight programme, a role he retains to this day. He was also a reporter on several student radio stations before he took the leap into broadcasting. His media savvy has been honed over the years, with stints as a journalist in Aberdeen and Scotland. He is a firm believer in the power of collaboration, having worked with a variety of artists in a variety of mediums.
He is a jack of all trades, having produced a number of record titles, compiled several articles and securing the role of a brand ambassador. He has also been a member of the Scottish Civic Award Tyrone Smith producer ad hoc committee, and is currently a member of the STV News at Six team. In the past he has branched out into entrepreneurship, having founded T's Groove Inc., a multimedia company aimed at creating original content for TV, radio, mobile and social media platforms.
The best part of his career is his ability to juggle the responsibilities of several roles, while still maintaining a work-life balance. He has worked with a wide variety of artists and media partners, including his former colleagues from STV, and is the star of his own television show, Tyrone's Tour.
